Matched savings graduate starts new business
Rick successfully graduated from the Matched Savings Program in Fall 2010, and used his matched savings money towards purchasing a new Rickshaw for his summertime business. The new Rickshaw will allow him to operate on a full-time basis, save costs on repair, and increase revenues for his business.
At first I thought the information in this program to be overwhelming but as time passed I found I was able to integrate a lot of what I was learning into my personal life with great success. I made it through this year and a lot of personal crises and stress by reviewing the financial information I was taught, particularly the information on assets and consumerism. I utilized my financial and social assets throughout the year’s crisis and reminded myself of what I learned about controlling my spending and living simply (budgeting, goal setting and remembering what’s important).
In doing this, I was able to pay my rent of $1,300 with an income of $1,400 after the loss of my room-mate for 4 month and still make my $50 a month savings commitment in the Matched Savings Program.
Today, I am thankful for the opportunity and am using the funds to help with purchasing a new rickshaw for my business.
